I was unable to find much about it online but I was able to confirm that it was possible for a few years. It was never a profitable endeavor, with the railroads taking over transportation of products that were envisioned for the waterway. The plaque I read said it was closed due to concerns about invasive species migrating into Lake Winnebago and eventually all the Great Lakes.

Our first stop of the day was at Lakeside Park in Fond Du Lac, it’s located at the southern tip of Lake Winnebago.

Then we drove up the western edge of the lake, about midway is the town of Oshkosh WI, where every year they have a fly in where planes from all over fly in for a very large air/ airplane show.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EAA_AirVenture_Oshkosh

We didn’t stop here.

Then at the northern tip of the lake we passed through the towns of Neenah and Menasha. According to the park owners we’re the only ones who have had problems lately. The park is at the end of the power line. There are a few houses between the park and the transformer, an A/C unit kicks on causing a momentary drop in voltage – our surge protector kicks off. It shuts down at 104 volts For low voltage.

This is through the week, over the weekends we were unable to get the surge protector to come on. I’m able to check incoming voltage by turning on the power, while it’s cycling I can see the voltage, once it noticed it was at 92 volts. Apparently we’re not the only ones in the park with a surge protector.

Our surge protector is built in, not recommended by me, if your considering gettting one. Because ours is built in we are unable to bypass it if it fails or in this case to plug in and keep the batteries charged. Our surge protector protects from high voltage but also kicks out with low voltage. Apparently low voltage is really hard on A/C units, I wonder how many years of usage are being used up this weekend from the low voltages.

Good thing we have some solar up top and a decent inverter. We can run the smaller stuff, but can’t run an A/C.

Quick summary, 9 days of basically no A/C and with it to hot to go hiking and many popular attractions closed due to the virus, we have mainly hung around home, sitting outside in the shade. Speaking of shade, we’re in the shade until about noon which really helps with the heat.

Like I said, we’ve set out side quite a bit in the hades heat, fortunately the humidity has not been unbearable and about dark the voltage increases enough to turn the surge protector back on, we don’t attempt to turn on the A/C on but it’s been in the mid 60’s at night and with fans it’s not been uncomfortable sleeping.

7/5/2020

Today at 2:30 it’s, 90, bright sunshine, kinda humid, off and on SLIGHT breeze, in other words beyond hades HOT!!!!! The surge protector has kicked off a couple of times, so we’re leaving the A\\C off. With several campers leaving today we have a little more voltage but apparently not enough to run the A\\C’s………. GRRRRRR. Anyway it’s 90 here and at Ontonagon MI, where we were for a month last summer, it’s 75 with a low tonight expected to be 62……………………. I miss the weather at Ontonagon!!!

Get this, you remember how I say we don’t like to make reservations? Well , don’t faint, but we made some reservations the other day for down in Texas in April——————2024. Should be in the path of the eclipse:)

Yes, another safety rant from ME!

I hope everyone really thinks about where they go and what they do indoors and keeps your distance outdoors.

Is the stop your about to make necessary? With COVID-19 cases skyrocketing, each building you enter greatly increases your chances of coming into contact with someone who has it. Beyond work and groceries, do you really need to be going anyplace else? Is it really worth the health risk?

AND remember, it’s not just your health that your putting at risk but potentially everyone else you come in contact within a few days later whether you develop symptoms or not. It’s scary times right now folks and I fear the worst is yet to come!

Different places around the country the ICU beds are filling up based on your overall health you might be turned away or if your fortunate enough to get the last ICU bed, and you loose the battle, like around the almost 130,000 who already have, you will potentially draw your last breath not surrounded by family and loved ones but with over worked nursed and doctors. As your body shuts down from COVID-19, basically you will be alone. If you can’t get into the hospital because they are full then you will be at home in bed gasping for your last breath as you expire from pneumonia or other lung failures brought on by COVID-19.

As for me I’ve been making a list of things I need, in this case I can get everything from Ace, pulled into the parking lot, this is on a Saturday, looked at all the cars and left. Nothing I need was worth the risk of entering the store then, I went back on a weekday morning, there was only 1 other customer in the store.

Just in case your eyes glazed over reading the above – Translation, stay out of buildings unless it’s ABSOLUTELY necessary and stay away from crowds, wear a mask, avoid others as much as you can……. stay safe & healthy.

The End

Just keep scrolling down, eventually you’ll find The End.
