I do believe I mentioned that it’s on the muddy and un-level side. A note, somewhere after we left Alpena MI we sprung a leak in a hydraulic hose on the transmission. As we got nearer to here it was getting worse. I added fluid several times, the Jeep was coated with a fine mist by the time we arrived.

So anyway, I called a mobile repair guy, Mike, he came out yesterday evening, in his car after work and his business hours, he lives close, to see if he could diagnose the problem. The under carriage was fairly well coated and I couldn’t tell where the leak was. He had me start her up and after a few minutes found a leaking hose and said he can fix it on site. Good news! He will take them off, 2 hoses, only 1 is currently leaking but both are old. More on that later.

What could have really ruined my day was when he mentioned for several reasons I need to clean off the under carriage —- one reason was because the transmission fluid coating the underside is flammable and if it was to catch on fire, like from the exhaust, or something else hot, let’s just say that would be bad and would have really ruined my day……. nothing was hitting the exhaust or anything else hot….. thankfully but it still needs be cleaned up.

Right now I’m not sure when he’ll be around to take the hoses off but he knows we need to move on the 7th. He said that won’t be a problem.

8/5/2020

Mike the mobile tech guy came out today about 1:30 today. The hoses were on there but not corroded or anything, a good strong arm and they came off. He ended up changing 3 hoses, there was a short one that was as old as the other 2 so we changed all 3. He had to remove the transmission fluid filter, looks like an oil filter, to reach one end of the hoses, so we put on a new filter on too. The new hoses are more flexible than the old ones and should last another 30+ years.

And in (the it never fails department), the campground is mostly empty, Mike parks his truck in the spot next to ours. Wouldn’t you know it, of course someone came in and had that spot reserved.

We were going to move today, a day early but Mike felt we didn’t need to take RUBY for a test drive, originally he mentioned it, test drive means everything needs to be put up, just as well move even tho it’s a day early. By dragging out feet we didn’t move after all but have everything ready to move in the morning. Where we’re moving to is top secret.

The End

8/4/2020 We’re parked here in the Charlestown State Park.
