I\u2019ll get to the famous part later, but first……..
We\u2019re cruising down the highway doing about 110MPH, heading north on hwy 93. When we see this sigh for Mount Marston Lookout. So I lock up the brakes, smoke starts rolling, the tires are squealing, we spin around a couple of times, still pointing north I jam it into reverse all 4 tires are spinning and the smoke is just a rolling, I get backed up enough to turn on to the gravel road we start fishtailing big time when the tires hit the loose gravel. Ok so that\u2019s not what really happened but sounds better than I didn\u2019t see the sign in time and had to turn around.<\/p>\r\n
Going slow, we was keeping a watch out for, I told Mary we were looking for bears, elk, moose and any other varmints we could see, but I was really looking for the elusive bigfoot….. but then I bet you already guessed that. Well, we keep a close eye out but besides a few chipmunks scurrying across the road we didn\u2019t see anything. However that could \u00a0because of all the traffic. Ok, so while we were driving on the paved road we met 2-3 cars over about 15 miles, didn\u2019t catch up with anyone and nobody passed us. We get on this small gravel road, I will admit I was driving slow looking for critters, but we were passed by about 7-8 vehicles. Not long after the dust would settle, it\u2019s very dry up here and we\u2019re under a no fire ban, the dust would be in the air for what seemed like forever, and along comes another car, anyway the gravel road was much busier than the paved road, go figure.<\/p>\r\n
We were creeping along extra slow, when we decide to take this one side road, that the GPS said went to a lake, it did, believe it or not. The GPS in the jeep is wrong more often than not, especially when searching for Post Offices But that\u2019s another story. \u00a0Well, it\u2019s no wonder the fires get so out of hand up here. The trees along that little path of a road were so close together that you could not have walked through them, most were 3-5 inches around and dead, only the taller ones were alive, but they were packed so tight that the dead ones could not fall over, no bigfoot living in there that’s for sure.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n
Once we reached the lake, the road was blocked with a big rock and ditch, so we checked out the lake and turned around and continued on towards the lookout.<\/p>\r\n
For about 7-8 miles were in a valley before we started to climb the road got narrower, not to many switchbacks but still up and up.<\/p>\r\n
At the summit we talked to a volunteer for while once we reached the top at 7348 feet high ordinarily we could have gone in and looked around from inside, and seen some ot the equipment they use to spot fires and determine their location but because of the virus thing we couldn\u2019t go in and she talked from the upper rail.<\/p>\r\n
On the way down we had a bite to eat then continuing on down, on the very skinniest part of the road we meet someone, he pulls over in the ditch, we\u2019re on the outside, no guard rail or trees to stop you if you slip off too nothingness, I\u2019m going real slow, making sure we didn\u2019t hit mirrors, the front tire rolled through a small dip but it sure felt big, like oh know it\u2019s over the edge we go, all was ok:) I didn\u2019t think until later that I should have pulled in my mirror, that would have given us a few more inches of road.<\/p>\r\n\n\t\t
