We pulled out of Cabela\u2019s pretty early this morning like at around 6:40. That\u2019s much earlier than I would normally leave, before it\u2019s full daylight, but we were both up and wide awake….Cabela\u2019s was very well lit.
This is how we roll, last night we were going to head down towards Salt Lake City Utah, this morning we tossed that ideas and took 2 lane roads towards Rock Spring Wyoming, this had us driving through part of the Grand Teton Mountains. Note to self, it\u2019s not the wisest decision to go east into the mountains at sunrise. At times the the mountains were in the dark shadows and other times your looking directly into the rising sun, oh and the roads are crooked.
As I mentioned, in the last post, it\u2019s Labor Day Weekend and we don\u2019t have any place to stay. That is of some concern because everywhere around is expected to be in the low 90\u2019s and around 60 at night, that makes it kinda warm to sleep even with fans going.<\/p>\r\n
S0 we\u2019re driving down Hwy 189 we\u2019re up around 7500 feet. It\u2019s kind of an alpine Medows I guess, small shrub kinda looking area, with mountains all around. We notice this campground, we can tell from the road that there are a few open spots, so we pull in looking for electricity at the sites. There are none but we check the weather app it says high 88 with a low of 40, now that\u2019s more like it so we decided to stay, it\u2019s only about 10:30 in the morning by the way, we drove 143 miles. \u00a0It\u2019s on BLM land (Bureau of Land Management), $10 a night, $5 with MARY’S senior National Park Pass. They have several water faucets around and a dump station.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n
We looked at a printed map that was posted up and it showed a petroglyph site not to far from here, when we looked for it on our phone it said the site was 150 miles away, what gives. The camp host was out side so I asked him about it, we studied the map and he determined the dot on the map was in the wrong place, he was familiar with the site we was talking about. He told me about a couple of small sites around that weren\u2019t on any maps then he mentioned a couple of roads that led up into the mountains, one of them was Green River Lakes, the beginning of the Green River.<\/p>\r\n
Off we go, didn\u2019t really see anyone on the paved portion or the trip, get on the 19 mile long gravel washboarded road and there are cars, trucks, vans, side by sides and more. We bounce our way back there, including one stop while some cattle were being driven, down the road, cowgirl and her dog, from one pasture to another.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n
We didn\u2019t see any bigfoot or any other creatures except for some prong horn antelope, we know there are elk in the area because, according to the sign, it\u2019s an elk feeding ground, there they feed elk hay in the winter and they had a large covered hay barn, full of hay.<\/p>\r\n
We get to the end of the road, boat ramp, trail head and campground, it\u2019s \u00a0so busy we could not find a place to park, we ended up, one of us watched the Jeep while the other hit the restroom.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n
Just out side of the congested area we lucked in to a recently vacated spot along the river, where we had lunch and took a few pictures of the fabulous Mountain View\u2019s. On the way back home we decided to stay another day, since we had a spot and the weather was gong to be a little cooler even. Oh yea on Tuesday, here, the high is going to be 48 and the low of 15 degrees, yup it will be time to move on. Looks like several nights of freezing or below.<\/p>\r\n
And \u00a0just a curiosity, while we were eating Mary poured one of my last Big Reds into an empty water bottle, less chance of spilling it on the rough roads, so we\u2019re bouncing down the road I open the bottle and it goes pop as the lid comes off, a few minutes late in go to take another drink and as I unscrew the cap it shoots out of my hand.<\/p>\r\n
They don\u2019t have Big Red or Mike Sells Flaming Hot Potato chips. They don\u2019t know what they are missing out here.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n
