You know I mentioned trains in the last post, well, here\u2019s an up date, I\u2019m convinced that they have some sort of sensor set up so that every time you JUST get to sleep they send another train, with horn blaring. This in the busiest train track(s) we have had the honor to sleep by in a long while if not the busiest EVER!<\/p>\n
The 93 degrees yesterday dropped down to a very comfortable to a little cool 51 overnight. High of 73 today.<\/p>\n
I forgot to mention that yesterday when we rolled in, intentionally kinda early as in we got here at 10:30, we were the only ones here in this 4 spot CG, there was one other Motorhome here but it looks like it had a fire and nobody is staying in it. Even though it looks like a recent fire, I\u2019m kinda surprised the city hasn\u2019t had it towed away yet. That leaves 2 spots open, while we were gone to ToadStool yesterday 2 others arrived. In these small parks I like to arrive early just in encase it\u2019s full or to get the better spot. Another plus for these small town campgrounds, most are self check in, no going into buildings and dealing with someone face to face in these scary COVID-19 times.<\/p>\n
Just think of Toadstool as a mini Badlands without the crowds.<\/p>\n
Yesterday morning at 11 o\u2019clock I had on a tee shirt and was warm, this morning I have on a sweatshirt and comfortable.<\/p>\n
This morning we drove up to Fort Robinson State Park, it\u2019s only about 5 miles away, its about 22,000 acres I think and is pretty historically significant. Among other things it\u2019s where Red Cloud Indian Agency was located, it\u2019s also where Crazy Horse was killed. Durning WWII it was a German POW camp and they did some K9 training durning the war also. That\u2019s just a few of the highlights.<\/p>\n
One of the first things we did was drive on Old Smiley Canyon Senic Drive, the buffalo were to far away to get a good look at but these 2 donkeys, see title Picture, wanted to play chicken, actually it was more of a stare down, inching the jeep forward and I won. Then they acted like they wanted to collect a toll of a treat for moving out of the way. Continuing the drive we didn\u2019t see any other wildlife.<\/p>\n
Then it was down another gravel road to where the Indian Agency and POW camp were located. It was just past there that we walked towards some Longhorns, they were a might skittish so we didn\u2019t try to get to close to the fence.<\/p>\n
Then we drove another little gravel road, where Mary had the idea to take a picture driving through Middle Fork Solider Creek. There are also some fishing ponds scattered around.<\/p>\n
