We booked a month at a small RV park in the West Texas town of Presidio, just outside of Big Bend Ranch State Park, it’s tight on the Mexican border and in the last post all the pictures of the river, that was Mexico on the other side. Apparently, this area is also in a drought because we understand that the river is very low and has been for a few years now.<\/p>\n
Big Bend Ranch State Park is also just north of Big Bend National park where we were a couple of years ago.<\/p>\n
We drove back to the ranger station of Big Bend Ranch State Park today, it’s 27 miles ( 54+ miles round trip) back a dead end, washboard, rough, dusty gravel road. The posted speed limit is 25, there were only a couple of miles where you could go that fast and stay in your seat, with the always worn seat belt on, a couple of times my poor noggin came rather close to being splattered on the side window.<\/p>\n
Today was really just a scouting mission to check out some trail heads and 4 wheel drive roads. We’re kinda confused on the permit requirements, the lady at the ranger station suggested we ride back this one trail for a mile or so, for a great view, we started to do it, only to discover a big sign that said a special permit was required. We were running low on both time and gas so we decided to go back another day, with more gas, and see about a permit. It took us about 2 hours to drive the 27 miles in and almost that long to drive back out.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
